I am currently keeping this site very simple while I work out content and methods for getting the UK motorist a fair deal.
I am a keen motorist and like many of you out there am feed up with the raw deal that we get.
As a result of recent press coverage the price of new cars has started coming down, but we still pay too much. (Does anyone have a web site I could link to? Please email me)
Momentum is gathering to put pressure on the government about the tax on fuel with calls to boycott the pumps. High fuel prices are costing jobs as the haulage companies carry the burden of these over inflated prices. Tax is used to fill the government coffers and not spent on the transport infrastructure.
The government is dangling a carrot of lower VED (tax) if we drive a vehicle producing lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emmisions.
Many roads are suffering from years of neglect and under-investment. Roads surfaces are poor and in places dangerous. A road full of potholes will reduce the braking efficiency of a vehicle leading to possible accidents. Bad road surfaces also damage the suspension of vehicles, adding to the running costs. (Again, does anyone have a web site I could link to? Please email me)
Many speed cameras, or Gastos, are deliberately hidden behind signs or bushes making them difficult to spot. In these cases they are not a deterrent, but yet another source of revenue from the motorist. Other times they are placed on roads with unnecessarily low speed limits. My pet hate is the A12 trunk road between the M11 junction and the A11. This is a modern urban dual carriageway which has speed limits of 40 or 50 mph and is filled with speed cameras. Pedestrians are benned from this streach of road and they would have a hard time getting to the road, let alone crossing it due to walls and barriers. The road surface is very good, as it is a new road, there are either 2 or 3 lanes and the junctions all have proper slip roads, yet there are numerous cameras on this short stretch of road.
We should lobby the government to enforce a fairer deal for motorists.
Thank you for listening,
Stephen Kodz
